The British spy agency GCHQ has published its first open recruitment notice for hackers. Hackers in a few simple words (and not the sophisticated ones mentioned in the notice) are needed to develop malware, and breach systems to intercept data.
Legal illegals, that is, the well-known style of the NSA, but also of every intelligence service.
But let's see what happened:
In a notice published on Tuesday, the intelligence agency GCHQsaid it was looking for computer specialists who “may be required to develop software to assist in accessing the computers of terrorist groups, or to carry out work to retrieve vital clues relating to the location and identity of members of organised crime,” the notice states.
The hackers who will work for the service are to help “detect and prevent attacks on critical national infrastructure, or to defend government systems against criminals seeking to steal information, identities or money.”
The news comes just months after the leaked documents from Edward Snowden detailed the extent of the UK intelligence agency's malware development network. We're mentioning this for those who believed that after Snowden's leaks, the current situation would automatically change... and from their couch.
Successful candidates will sign a top-secret contract, and will begin work at a starting salary of $43,700.
