The first presentation of the crypto e-mail service Lavaboom

About a year ago (16/04/2014) we published the closure of the encrypted email service Lavabit, and the announcement of a new one, Lavaboom.lavaboom

You might remember the Lavabit. If you're not one to keep facts to yourself, then remember that the company in question was shut down under pressure from the NSA to hand over its encryption keys.

For the record, Lavabit was a secure email service that Edward Snowden supposedly used. After its shutdown, there were publications that wanted it to collaborate with Silent Circle to create a new secure email service.

Lavaboom encrypts user data on the client side and sends encrypted emails by default.

Development of Lavaboom began in 2013 and testing began in April 2014.

During testing, the developers found that something was wrong with the encryption and so they wrote all of Lavaboom's code from scratch.

The good news is that the official Beta testing of Lavaboom has begun and that the company seems to have started distributing new e-mails with invitations.

We are writing this article to introduce you to the new service, since we can probably consider ourselves among the lucky ones who received one of the company's first invitations.

For the record, from today you can also contact us at giorgos@lavaboom.com.

But let's see what the new service offers.

First of all, it is a new company based in Germany and, as it states, aims to provide a secure email service. Unlike Lavabit, which was a paid service, Lavaboom offers a free 1GB mailbox (for now), protected with draconian security measures.

The service is still in beta, which means that in the future we may see things change, such as providing additional storage space for those who wish to do so, for a fee of course.

In the images below you can see what the company offers in the free basic plan (beta)
