Facebook's Drone Is Bigger Than a Boeing 737

Facebook to 4 billion people around the world who currently lack Internet access.

The ambitious project intends to use drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles as we call them in Greek, to provide internet access to rural and remote areas, as well as third world countries.facebook drone

According to Facebook's chief technology officer, Mike Schroepfer, the final design of Facebook's prototype drone will have V-shaped wings and a wingspan greater than that of a Boeing 737. Its volume will be no larger than that of a small car, according to the project's managers.

The social network's drone has already completed its first test flight in the United Kingdom, as CEO Mark Zuckerberg reported on his Facebook page

"It will be powered by solar panels on its wings and will be able to stay at altitudes above 60,000 feet for months," Zuckerberg said.

The prototype's codename is Aquila, after the eagle of Greek mythology who was the messenger of Zeus. (ed.: Zeus in this case is Mark? He rode the reed...)
