Surreal Instagram Account with Collages You Can Eat

Many imaginative internet users spend time collecting and documenting the oddities of the modern world, such as the r/mildlyinteresting subreddit on Reddit or “Things Fitting Perfectly into Other Things” on Tumblr. Instagram

That's how Instagrammer Matija Erceg from Vancouver, Canada, got his start. Erceg finds everyday things that resemble food and combines them with their edible equivalents to create the series @SeriousDesign.

These visual amalgams are vivid representations of various common experiences with a twist, but which have a curiosity and alternation, or what Erceg himself calls, "are pleasantly disgusting.".

A controller for an NES console that resembles ice cream that sticks to your hands, a greasy onion ring that resembles diamond rings, and in-ear headphones that have shrimp instead of lice, are all objects that challenge us to think about how we use all these objects every day.

“Imagine what it would feel like to put this in your ears like you would with regular headphones,” said on his Instagram Erceg, describing the shrimp headphones. “I think seeing the shrimp on the end of the cables helps you capture that feeling.”

Our personal nightmare here at VICE, regarding Erceg's project, is the sunglasses that have raw meat instead of glass lenses.

The way he processes the images in Photoshop may not make the works completely realistic, as one would encounter in the work of Thomas Dagg or Logan Zillmer, but they manage to convey to the viewer the basic creepy idea behind the artist's imagination.

The user in question is currently studying food sculpture in hopes of bringing @SeriousDesign out of the fictional world and into the physical.
