CEO Mercedes-Benz Dr. Dieter Zetsche (better known as Dr. Z) revealed the company's concept car for the future: The F 015 “Luxury in Motion.”
The “connected car” is more than just something that reads your text messages and gives driving instructions. The presentation of Google's self-driving car made car manufacturers see another future. With the F 015, Mercedes-Benz is trying to evolve car self-driving by adding interior seats that can rotate so passengers can talk while the car takes them to their destination. Passengers have control, and anyone of them who wants can steer manually if needed.
In a metaphor Dr. Z mentioned that the car will always know where to go, just as horses know how to return to their stable.
The F 015 is sporty and quite sleek, with a silver carbon-fiber body. The LED lighting changes indicate the autonomous driving functions compared to the manual functions. The front LEDs communicate to pedestrians to let them know when it is safe to cross in front of the vehicle.
