Gran Turismo cars on the road? Probably not anytime soon. There are several reasons why cars on the road look a bit the same: Car designers can't just do whatever they want. They're limited by the laws of physics and aerodynamics, endless government regulations, and the desires of shareholders. But what happens when they can break free from those limitations?
What would they be planning? If you have a PlayStation with the game Gran Turismo 6, you're probably prepared for what's coming next.
To mark the game's 15th anniversary, Sony asked automakers around the world to design special vehicles for a virtual world.
The results are crazy. Each participating automaker was tasked with creating a two-door, high-horsepower grand touring vehicle (“Gran Turismo”).
Some presented a classic GT, like the Mercedes-Benz AMG with a stunning V8 engine. Others were more radical, like the sci-fi engine from Aston Martin.
So far, there are nine of these cars available to download (for free). Sony says it will be introducing more in 2015, from manufacturers like Audi, Lamborghini, Mini, and Peugeot. To see the available cars, open up your PlayStation. Just don't expect to see them on the road anytime soon.
