Apple has reached an agreement with credit card companies that will allow owners of its next-generation iPhone6to make electronic payments at retail stores, US media reported.
Apple is expected to unveil a new version of the iPhone next week. It is also likely to announce deals with Visa, MasterCard and American Express, Bloomberg , citing a person familiar with the matter, who asked not to be named because the talks between Apple and the credit card companies are private. The payments system will turn the next version of the iPhone into a mobile wallet, Bloomberg reported.
Owners of the next-generation phone will be able to easily make payments via a mobile phone that contains a special communication chip. This could be combined with a fingerprint recognition system that already debuted on the latest iPhone and allows consumers to pay their bills and make purchases in various stores securely with just the touch of a finger.
Online media outlets reported earlier Sunday that Apple has reached an agreement with American Express to work together on the new iPhone.
Apple has a media event scheduled for September 9th, prompting rumors that it will also unveil its new phone, which will likely have a larger screen than previous-generation iPhones .
According to reports, the new phones are expected to have 12 and 14-centimeter screens, unlike the current model which has a 10-centimeter screen.
