Cybercriminals are doing everything they can to get their hands on your online accounts, not just on Facebook, but also on Twitter. A recent attempt discovered by Malwarebytes tries to obtain the credentials of unsuspecting users with the promise of a verified account on the micro-blogging service.

Twitter provides verified accounts (with the green badge) to celebrity and brand accounts that use the platform in order to “verify” their identity. Of course, it is known that the company does not accept verification requests from the general public.
Malwarebytes says the scammers are trying to exploit thousands of users' desire for the green badge and have created a website to steal usernames and passwords that appears to be genuine.
The fake page looks real because all the links contained in it lead to legitimate pages, hosted on Twitter domains.
However, the theft of passwords happens in the background and the victim is immediately taken to the FAQ page after “verification”.
So beware of scammers who promise hares with stone claws.
