The FBI, the UK's National Crime Agency, and other international law enforcement agencies have delivered two major blows to global online financial fraud: the Gameover Zeus botnet and the Cryptolocker ransomware network.
Through partnerships it had with several private security companies, including Symantec, the FBI managed to seize many of the infrastructures that were used to spread the two threats. Symantec even released a new free tool that victims can use to completely remove infections from Gameover Zeus.
Gameover Zeus is responsible for millions of infections worldwide since its release in September 2011. Attackers use it to monitor online banking transactions, and to deceive the customers of hundreds of financial institutions worldwide.
Crytpolocker, meanwhile , is one of the latest and most threatening ransomware to emerge. It works by encrypting files on the victim's hard drive and demanding a ransom to decrypt them.
