Outrage in Italy over censored lesbian kiss on Facebook

By deleting her Facebook  , an Italian woman "paid" for her decision to post a photo of two women kissing on the social network, as part of a campaign for gay rights.

28-year-old Carlotta Trevisan was notified by Facebook that she had violated the social network's rules regarding "nudity and pornography" when she uploaded the controversial photo to commemorate, as she says, the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHOT) last Saturday.

Immediately after the post, Trevisan was inundated with abusive and aggressive messages from other users. As she told the newspaper La Stampa, one user called her action "disgusting" and another complained that she "has young children to protect.".

Facebook contacted Trevisan and – as she says – asked her to take down the photo. When she refused, she was informed that her profile would be deleted for “violating community guidelines.”.

The photo he uploaded is widely used in campaigns for gay rights.

"What was wrong with this photo, especially when so many like it can be found on Google? There is nothing wrong with a kiss. When I see people of the same sex kissing I see only love and nothing else," he said.

The incident occurred last Saturday night. However, on Monday, the 28-year-old woman's account was restored.

Last week, a survey ranked Italy as one of the worst countries in Europe for gay rights.
