Sony has unveiled and demonstrated a magnetic tape cartridge that can store 185TB, setting a new world record in the field of data storage.

This means that the storage capacity per square inch is 18.5GB, which is much higher than the record held by IBM in 2010.
For those who want more technical details, the areal recording density of the new cartridge is 148 Gigabits per square inch, due to the nano-grains that the magnetic layer contains with fine magnetic particles and uniform crystal orientation.
The company did not give a possible release date for the revolutionary product.
