a while ago Brendan Eich . But last night he officially announced his resignation. The resignation of the new Mozilla CEO came after a scandal erupted over a donation he made a few years ago to support an anti-gay community that condemned same-sex marriage.
"Mozilla prides itself on being held to a different standard, and last week, that wasn't the case. We know why people are angry, and they're right: it's because we haven't stayed true to ourselves," reads a message posted on the company's blog.
“We didn’t act the way you would expect Mozilla to act. We didn’t move fast enough to engage with people when the controversy started. We’re sorry. We need to do better than this,” the post continues.
Mitchell Baker, the president of the Mozilla Foundation and former CEO of Mozilla Corporation, announced that Brendan Eich has chosen to step down from his role as CEO, for the benefit of Mozilla and the community.
He also decided to step down from the company entirely, stating that Mozilla's mission is bigger than anything and anyone else.
“Mozilla stands for equality and freedom of speech, and welcomes contributions from everyone, regardless of age, culture, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, language, race, sexual orientation, geographic location, and religious beliefs.” Mozilla supports equality for all.
