According to a report by Edge, Sony is set to unveil its first virtual reality headset during the GDC (Game Developers Conference), which will take place from March 17-21.
Specifically, the unveiling of Sony's VR headset is expected to take place during the "Driving the Future of Innovation" panel, which will be attended by SCEA (Sony Consumer Electronics America) R&D Director Richard Marks, SCEA R&D Chief Software Engineer Anton Mikhailov, and SCE Studios President Shuhei Yoshida. Marks and Mikhailov also worked on the development of the PlayStation Eye and Move.

According to the report, the leak came from developers who claim to already have the hardware in their hands, or rather in their heads. It is also expected that some games or demos from some of the studios collaborating with Sony will make an appearance during GDC.
Sony has reportedly been considering the possibility of getting involved in the virtual reality content player space since at least 2011. However, all that has been shown so far are some futuristic models for head-mounted displays, such as the HMZ-T3W model, which, however, do not have the ability to display virtual reality content.

Instead, the Oculus Rift took the spotlight in 2012, with over 60,000 units produced for content developers. Oculus VR is reportedly working on improved prototypes in collaboration with Valve. The first consumer units are expected to arrive in late 2014 or early 2015.
