A hacker claiming to be part of the hacker group Anonymous has breached the University , leaking database information.
The database server contained information from current and former biomedical engineering students. The stolen information includes the students' names, phone numbers, and email addresses.
The University says that no information, such as social security or credit card numbers, has been affected by the attack.
According to the Baltimore Sun, the well-known hacker group Anonymous attempted to extract further information from the database, threatening to leak the stolen data if the university did not hand over the server password.
The breach reportedly occurred last November, the vulnerability exploited by the hackers has been patched. The university is working with the FBI in an effort to remove the data from the internet.
