Last week, Microsoft accidentally (?) revealed the download links for Windows 8.1 Update 1. So many people installed the upcoming Windows update, thinking it was RTM.
Microsoft quickly removed the links to prevent others from installing the update, but that doesn't seem to be the case as the files are now all over the internet.
While all this was happening, Chinese website PCBeta reported that build 17031 is not the RTM that everyone thought, meaning those who installed it will likely need to reinstall their operating system once the final version of the update is released.
While no one can say for sure whether this post is accurate or not, the build currently circulating online seems to be very close to the stable build, as most of the features rumored to be included in Windows 8.1 Update 1 were already there.
On the other hand, this whole story can teach many people not to rush and not install on their system what appears on the internet, especially when it has not been officially announced.
