Emsisoft Anti-Malware 8.1 Review

Emsisoft Anti-malware

Searching the internet for a good option for detecting malware, such as trojans for example, we "stumbled" upon Emsisoft Anti-Malware.

We were impressed that in the tests conducted by the authoritative av-comparatives.org , the previously unknown Emsisoft Anti-Malware occupies the top positions.

We decided to investigate further. We downloaded the application and installed it on a fully updated Windows 8.1 system.
The installation was a breeze, and finished within 2 minutes although the installer was quite large (about 180 MB). After it downloaded all the updates it asked us to choose the scan type, quick, smart, full or custom. We chose a quick scan to start,

Note: The program was installed on a computer that already had another anti-virus and another Anti-Malware installed to compare the processes and to see if they work together and do not interfere with each other. Although we do not recommend it to you, all applications worked together flawlessly.

In the image below the low system requirements of Emsisoft are shown. While the computer we were testing was dying, the system's CPU never exceeded 30% and the memory used by the program was only 1.4 MB. Directly below is the anti-virus which at the same time required 3 MB and 101.7 MB while it was idle.

CPU
The application's dual-core scanner seemed very fast and we were surprised to discover how light it was during the scan. The results showed that it is lighter than products that use a single core.
The database used for the scan contains 99,298 malware samples. It is exactly the same as the one used by Bitdefender Total Security 2013.
We visited several phishing sites and Emsisoft Anti-Malware showed us that it can provide us with protection. As soon as it detects the malicious website, Anti-Malware immediately blocks it from loading and gives us a warning. With Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox it was impossible to access the phishing websites we selected.

tipThe program is designed to be easy to use (installing in Greek helps a lot in the subsequent management of the application). Emsisoft Anti-Malware, as we mentioned above, uses the Bitdefender detection engine. Before version 7.0, it used Ikarus, but it was replaced due to its tendency to show false positives for programs that were harmless.

What does it do?

Removes trojans containing backdoors, keyloggers, dialers, spyware, adware, tracking cookies, worms, viruses and rootkits from your computer.

Protects your online browsing

Conclusion

The malware detection rate is a strong point of the application. Also, the minimal consumption of system resources when running the program makes it one of the best of its kind.

Its price makes it very affordable since the cost of a one-year license is 20 euros. Along with all of the above, we were pleased to notice that the software developers have a support forum.

Without exaggeration in design, and with a very high percentage of reliability in scans, Emsisoft Anti-Malware reveals the goal of its development team: Emphasis on security, not on show-off.

The new version also comes with the promise of a much-improved malware scanning and cleaning engine, along with dozens of user-interface tweaks requested by the company's customers. Emsisoft , by listening to its customers' demands, is showing the way to many companies (think Microsoft and the start menu button, which at first didn't want to hear about it and insisted we forget about it).

Emsisoft Anti-Malware 8.1 is available for free download. It works on computers running Windows XP or later.

From the company's website.

Web Browsing Protection: If you accidentally try to access a website that contains trojans or spyware, Emsisoft Anti-Malware will block you from entering the website to avoid viruses. The built-in list of known dangerous and deceptive websites is automatically updated every hour.

File Protection: This critical layer of protection checks all files you download and run against over 10 million signatures of known malware. Combined with live Cloud verification of the Emsisoft Anti-Malware Network, it is our ultimate weapon against specialized and cutting-edge malware attacks that others cannot protect you from.
