Bad news for Windows Phone fans who own a Nokia Lumia smartphone, as the Finnish company has just confirmed that it has started showing ads in some Windows Phone 8 apps.
A user on the WPCentral forum discovered that the HERE Maps app is showing ads when someone searches for various points of interest (POIs). And unfortunately, the information was confirmed by the HERE Maps team.
Although the HERE Maps application (a program for viewing your location on a map using satellites, i.e. free of charge) is free for Nokia products, including maps, the ads alone cannot be considered a good omen.
Specifically, the HERE team reported:
“After showing ads (e.g. with Groupon) on here.com, we delayed introducing them to Windows Phone 8 apps. In this case, on HERE Maps, we are showing local ads relevant to the search result and nearby places.
In this example, the store “Grossman Iron & Steel Co” is visible on the map and, if you want to see what it offers, you can click on the banner to open the browser.
Unfortunately, HERE Maps currently does not have the ability to disable ads and customers cannot yet pay money to remove this feature.”
