Information about Windows 8.1 Update 1 is coming gradually throughout the day, so so far and in summary we can tell you:

We expect Update 1 in spring 2014 and  will be officially launched in April at the BUILD developer conference.

Information published on WinSuperSite reveals that Windows 8.1 Update 1 should be provided via Windows Update, since downloading and upgrading Windows 8.1 through the store caused a lot of problems for users.

Of course, the update will be completely free for all users running Windows 8.1 and since it is going to be delivered via Windows Update, the entire process of installing it should be done with minimal user interaction.

In addition to the security and performance improvements, they will also feature a new Start button as part of Redmond's effort to make the operating system a little more user-friendly. It's not yet clear what and how advanced this button will be, but it will likely be quite minimal.

It seems that the market ultimately drives fashion, and not fashion the market. In Microsoft, in every update of Windows 8 they add something from the start button. Apparently they don't want to "put their face" on the failure of their idea to completely remove the button and maybe that's why in every update they add only a part of it.
