The extreme weather phenomenon that has hit the US in recent days has given amateur scientists the opportunity to do some "cool" experiments, such as freezing a T-shirt in less than 60 seconds, or instantly turning water into snow.
A YouTube user named Tom Rauen, from Dubuquin, Iowa, uploaded a video proving that extreme outside temperatures can freeze a T-shirt almost instantly.
The wet blue T-shirt froze and became rigid within a minute, as the sub-zero outside temperature turned the water into ice.
But a video was recently released showing boiling water from a water pistol automatically turning into snow when it was thrown into the air.
The extreme cold that has hit the US for the past two days has forced authorities to warn residents to stay indoors to avoid freezing on the streets. Temperatures are expected to reach -58F (-50C), due to a weather phenomenon known as a “polar vortex.”.
