Philips SmoothTouch
New Philips 23-inch monitor with 10-point touch, camera, speakers and microphone fully understands the way people interact
Athens, December 9, 2013: MMD, the leading high-tech display company and brand license partner of Philips PC monitors, today announced the launch of the new 23-inch Philips 231C5 SmoothTouch, which combines the flexibility of touch with the performance of a desktop monitor - a combination that clearly resonates with the way people work and play today. The innovative 10-point touch display offers natural response to hand gestures, while also featuring a camera and microphone to keep users connected to their loved ones. The wide-angle IPS LED display offers vivid clarity from any viewing angle, a convenience complemented by the adjustable SmartStand for positioning the monitor at the most suitable angle.

Bright images – great interactive experience
Tab, grab, pinch, rotate, zoom and swipe: users who enjoy the above touch features of smartphones and tablets no longer have to miss out on them when using a desktop monitor. Keeping with Philips’ promise to deliver innovations that matter, the all-new Philips SmoothTouch monitor combines touch gesture with an integrated desktop to innovate the way people live and work. With the 23-inch touchscreen, users can use their computer in a new way.

For an immersive interactive experience, the display features 10-point touch - 10-finger control - and edge-to-edge glass. And because users are likely to use the display from any angle, SmoothTouch uses advanced IPS technology for 178° viewing angles. Essentially, users can work - and play games - while looking at the display from the side. IPS technology delivers vivid, accurate colors and stunningly sharp images that enhance the viewing experience, whether for work or entertainment.

“With more and more people using tablets and smartphones, the way we interact with computers has changed today,” says Thomas Schade, Vice President of MMD.

“The new SmoothTouch display contributes to a richer user experience with technology, allowing people to intuitively engage with their computer using a range of touch gestures. At 23 inches, the display is spacious enough to work on and especially vivid enough to bring apps to life.”
Making communication easier than ever
When users connect online with family and friends, the microphone and camera make a huge difference to the quality of interactive communication. With a built-in camera that delivers bright, clear images, a sensitive microphone that ensures voice clarity and rich, powerful audio output through stereo speakers, the new Philips 231C5 display is ready to connect with the world. The display can even play HD quality audio and video directly from an MHL-compatible mobile phone.
Easy experience
By freeing people from the mouse, the SmoothTouch display offers a more ergonomic experience. It also gives users more choice in terms of posture – better for their health. The Philips monitor includes the “SmartStand”: an adjustable stand that can tilt back almost 60 degrees to the desktop, placing it at the ideal angle for their hand movements. As for conventional use, it easily returns to an upright position. In terms of connectivity, the monitor is just as flexible: with SmartConnect including HDMI and VGA connections, Display Port, as well as USB 3.0 for fast data streaming and simultaneous charging of a Smartphone.
The Philips 231C5 SmoothTouch monitor is available in stores with a suggested retail price of €499 incl. VAT.
