The group that hacked the Forum MacRumors and obtained the passwords of 860,000 users will not leak the data or use it to hack into the Forum members' emails. As the hacker, or at least one of them, claims, the hack was only to see how far they could go and to show the administrators of the site that there are vulnerabilities.
To prove he was behind the hack, he gave MacRumors administrator Arnold Kim access to code details that are not publicly available. Kim said the information he received was “legit,” meaning the hacker who sent it is who he claims to be. The hacker is also a member of the MacRumors forum under the nickname Lol.
In a post about the hacking, he wrote: “We will not log into your Gmail, nor your Apple accounts. We are not terrorists. Stop worrying and stop blaming Macrumors for the hacking.”
He continued: “Think about it if the attack was malicious, the situation could have had devastating results, especially if it was done by some idiot seeking fame and making the database public.”
