Inputs.io is a Bitcoin repository or Bitcoin wallet that is a member of the Bitcoin organization . Today, it informed its users that its servers were hacked and a total of 4,100 Bitcoins (equivalent to $ 1,100,000 or € 800,000 ) were stolen. Due to the attack, the service says it is unable to pay its users.
The attackers compromised the website's hosting account from some old email accounts. The cybercriminals were able to easily reset their passwords because there were no phone numbers associated with the accounts.
Inputs.io uses two-factor authentication, but hackers managed to bypass it by exploiting a server-side.
The service's database has also been compromised by the attack, but Inputs.io reports that passwords are hashed and stored securely.
Users who have more than 1 Bitcoin in their Inputs.io account are requested to contact the service by sending an email to support[at]inputs.io containing a Bitcoin wallet address. Messages sent to Inputs.io must originate from the same email address used to create the account on the website.
