First Windows Phone malware discovered by F-Secure

All signs point to the first malware discovered on the Windows phones platform. The malicious software is included in a suite of tools called FinFisher. The “tools” come from a company called Gamma Group and are used for surveillance purposes.

One of the tools included in the suite is called FinSpy Mobile and is available for multiple mobile platforms, including Android, BlackBerry, iOS, and Windows Phone. The app allows monitoring of all communications from the infected device.

According to F‑Secure, this is the first time such a tool has appeared for Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system.

F -Secure published a presentation of the FinFisher suite and details on using FinSpy Mobile, among other things.

Obviously, the malicious software provides logging of all incoming and outgoing e‑mail, locates the device, monitors calls and generally all core communications, SMS/MMS, call logs, and more.
