The Ubuntu Edge project 's fundraising campaign has just entered its last 24 hours, and everything indicates that Canonical will not be able to raise the necessary funds.
Ubuntu Edge could be considered a failed ambitious project, but the Linux community agrees that Canonical is still a winner, without even building the phone.
Canonical's goal was very high. $32 million is a lot of money to give away for nothing.
But the message conveyed by the Ubuntu Edge projectis clear. People need mobile phones that can also work as PCs.
The message was quite strong, as the campaign managed to raise over $12 million , and perhaps another company will take advantage of the idea. Because the project may have failed, but the idea didn't.
It wouldn't surprise us if we saw an Android smartphone/PC from Sumsung, for example.
