KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes the new iPhone 5S will be powered by a faster A7 SoC that will use more advanced RAM, which will lead to about 20% better performance.
Kuo's latest research paper reveals that Apple's next-in-line A-series chip will be based on ARMv8 architecture and with a few tweaks to the hardware and software, it could allow the company to boost processing power by 20% (compared to the A6).
Kuo expects the A7 chip to be able to support the same amount of on-die RAM (1GB) , but via faster specifications – LPDDR3 RAM.
According to AppleInsider, “The increased bandwidth will allow Apple to maintain a relatively small amount of dedicated memory.”
Finally, Kuo believes it's not impossible for Apple to make the leap by introducing 64-bit devices this year. However, the safest bet is a 64-bit A-series chip, the A8, which is likely to come out next year (with the iPhone 6), Kuo says.
