A US adult turned himself in to police after ransomware infected his computer and threatened to report his activities to the FBI .

As is typical with this malware, it blackmails its victims with a warning demanding cash, either to unlock the computer or to not reveal the victim's illegal activities. These could be downloading pirated material, surfing pornographic websites, or pedophilia.
Having collected enough “material” from the web for his passion , he believed that the message really came from the FBI , as it claimed, and so he decided to go to the nearest police station with his head down to confess to his actions. He even took computer his with him so that there would be evidence.
The police, who could not believe what was happening, quickly discovered the photos of the underage girls. Immediately afterwards, they continued their investigation at his home.
It is truly a rare phenomenon for a cyber attack to have good results, reports Sophos.
