Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, has officially launched the Australian political party WikiLeaks and announced its parliamentary candidates. Assange himself is running for a seat in the Australian Senate.
Assange , who has taken refuge in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, made the announcement via Skype. He outlined his party's core policies, which can be summed up in three words: transparency, accountability and justice, as RT.
The party will also focus on and help all asylum seekers and climate change movements.
"It's a party to enter the Senate, to be sure that if it forms a government it will do its job properly. It's a security for these elections," Assange said. And he continued:
"The WikiLeaks Party is a censored party, it is not a government party."
Assange also talked about the possibility of taking a Senate seat remotely, since he can't leave the Ecuadorian embassy, at least for now. He claims it's never been done before, but it's theoretically possible.
