Since January 2013, copyright holders have asked Google to remove over 100,000,000 links to copyright-infringing websites, which is already double the total number of links removed in 2012.
The search engine giant is currently deleting an average of 15 million “illegal” links per month. That number seems to be stabilizing, but copyright holders are certainly not satisfied yet.
According to a report by Torrentfreak, copyright holders are sending millions of DMCA takedown requests in hopes of steering customers away from pirated websites. While Google generally complies with these requests, it has decided to be transparent about all of these requests and publish them in its report.
Since January of this year, Google has been asked to remove over 105,300,000 links to websites that potentially contain illegal content.
For file-hosting searches, FilesTube tops the list with over 5.8 million URLs, followed by Torrentz.eu and Rapidgator.net, each with over 2 million connections. The Pirate Bay may be the biggest torrent site, but since it has changed domains a few times already this year, and because it only hosts about two million torrent connections (roughly), it doesn't even appear in the top 20.
