Google Translate is adding a new feature that allows users to type whatever they want to translate, using the mouse.
Although hand-drawn text input was added to the Android app last year, the service now supports the web version. The desktop version now features a virtual keyboard that allows users to compose their words in the corresponding field.
While no one can draw perfect letters with a mouse, Google does a pretty decent job of figuring out what the user roughly wrote… or what they tried to write.
The service may be convenient for Chinese characters that are difficult to copy-paste into the field. Based on these characters displayed on the screen, you can get immediate help and view the translation of the word.
To see this new feature, you can simply select “Handwriting” from the drop-down menu. The service supports 45 languages so far, but not yet Greek.
