A strange malware has infected several computers of users in various European countries, such as Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Greece is not on the list of countries where cases of the new “virus” have been observed, but we must warn you as there are no borders on the Internet.
There are few details about this new mysterious malware, as those whose computers have been infected are reporting that it is some kind of BIOS malware.
Experts from security firm ThreatTrack report that the threat is similar to our familiar Ransomware , but without requiring the payment of a fine to unlock the computer.
So when victims start their infected computers, they are presented with an image of a female DJ and the message “YOU STEAL MUSIC, I LOCK YOUR PC.”
The image is as shown below, an ANSI image.
We don't yet know how the malware is distributed, but one possible scenario is that it is downloaded from BitTorrent websites.
Now who's behind this? Some random malware developer who wanted to pass the time, or some angry musician who wants revenge on torrent downloaders?
