Steve Jobs isn't known for his generosity. When he was working at Atari, he hired Wozniak to build a version of Pong over the weekend, but he lied to him about how much money was involved in the project and stole most of it from his best friend. And when he started Pixar, he fired people for no reason and without warning.
But there's at least one person out there who thinks Steve Jobs is the most generous person in the world. In fact, Jobs rewarded him with a Porsche for selling the most Macs in the United States. The number? Just 125 Macs.
Who was the lucky one to get the Porsche? A former Apple executive, Craig Elliott, who at 23 was working in an electronics store.
His life changed when he became particularly good at selling Macs, which had just been released. Soon he received a letter saying that he had sold the most Macs in the United States and was asked to visit Apple headquarters.
“I had dinner with Steve Jobs, spent a week with the executives, and Steve gave me a Porsche.” But when Steve asked him how many Macs he had sold, he didn’t like the answer.
“Steve said, ‘Is that all?’ ‘It’s pathetic,’” Elliot recalled. “I leaned over and said, ‘Steve, remember, I’m the best person you’ve got,’” Steve replied that he was right, and the rest of the dinner continued as normal.
Jobs later offered Elliot a job, and he worked for Apple for about a decade.
