Last week we reported that rumors began circulating that Samsung was preparing its answer to the iPad mini, but today, Samsung's Vice President confirmed to Korean news that they will be introducing the Galaxy Note 8.0 next month at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The device is expected to have an 8-inch display, a resolution of 1280×800, and will be powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.6 GHz.
Although Samsung has not confirmed its technical specifications, SamMobile, according to its trusted sources, lists the following:
- Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
- 8-inch screen with 1280×800 resolution
- 1.6GHz quad-core processor
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB/32GB internal storage
- microSD card slot
- 4,600 mAh battery
- S Pen
- 5-megapixel rear camera
- 1.3-megapixel front camera
- Bluetooth 4.0
- GPS
The Galaxy Note 8.0 is not a high-end tablet, so many believe that it was created to compete with the iPad mini, and if the above features are true, then it is quite superior to it, at least on paper.
The slightly larger screen and resolution and the quad-core processor will certainly offer something more than the dual-core of the iPad mini, but until it is released and the first tests begin, all of this is speculation.
