The administrators of Liberty-Market, a marketplace where cybercriminals can trade stolen goods, want to hire a proofreader and are willing to pay up to €700 ($790) per month for someone to review the site's content and correct spelling errors.
But there's a catch! The website is in French and all payments are for illegal goods, such as stolen passwords, stolen payment card numbers, malware samples, exploits, and more.
The job posting, spotted by analysts at security firm Trend Micro, states that the new hire will be required to log in four times a week for at least an hour and 30 minutes each time and review any new listings.
The proofreader should correct the style of the post, by adding new lines, spaces, or bolding titles, to improve readability. They should also correct any spelling errors made by users in other countries who used automatic translation tools, such as Bing or Google, to translate their texts before publishing them on the website.
According to the Foreign Service Institute (FSI), a U.S. agency that trains government officials to serve abroad, French is an easy language to learn
However, because most cybercriminals use machine translation tools, their texts make no sense and very few bother to correct them in terms of grammar and structure.
Since most scammers are not fluent in French, a simple copy-paste from Google Translate is ideal for them.
Therefore, to maximize the chances of a successful sale, Liberty-Market managers have taken matters into their own hands, in order, of course, to increase their profits.
