Another incident of a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 exploding while charging has been reported in less than a week.
Images of the burnt device were shared by a Note 7 user on Korean social media site Kakao, which have reportedly now been deleted. The user claimed that the Galaxy Note 7 exploded while charging.
“There was another Galaxy Note 7 explosion. It was my friend’s phone. A Samsung employee checked the site and is currently in talks with Samsung about compensation. You should use its original charger and keep the phone away from you while charging,” the post says.
While some users who saw the post claimed that the photo looked quite similar to the Galaxy Note 7 that was reported to have caught fire in the first episode, others argued that the models were different.
The first report of the Galaxy Note 7 exploding appeared online on August 24, when images were published of the damaged device while it was connected to a microUSB to USB Type-C converter.
The post read, “My partner’s Galaxy Note 7 exploded while charging at night. I woke up to the explosion and the smell of smoke.” However, it is unclear whether the owner was using the official charger or a cheaper model.
Samsung Electronics is believed to have recovered the device, which was rendered unusable during the fire, and is conducting extensive investigations to determine the cause of the explosion. If the problem is widespread, then Samsung may have to recall a large number of units, which would be a further blow to the company's revenue stream as well as its reputation. The company has not issued any statement so far.
Lately, companies have been suggesting that users only charge their phones with the official charger, so as to avoid damage to their devices.
