Thanks to the success of the Pokemon Go phenomenon, Nintendo has announced the launch of a new, mini Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) packed with 30 original NES games. The NES Classic Edition will go on sale on November 11th for $59.99.
However, there is one notable change. The mini-console will come with a replica of the original NES controller and contains 30 built-in games, including classics like Super Mario Bros 1, 2 and 3, The Legend of Zelda, Punch Out, Balloon Fight, Castlevania, Final Fantasy, Donkey Kong, Bubble Bobble and more.
The miniature version of the console uses an HDMI cable to connect directly to a TV and is described by the company as a "nearly identical, mini replica" of the original NES console, which was released in 1985.
For those who want to play with a second player, Nintendo has confirmed that the console will support two-player mode for games with that option, and a second controller can be purchased for $9.99. According to the company, players with a classic controller or Classic Controller Pro can also use those. The new controller will also connect to a Wii Remote, so you can use it to play Virtual Console games with the Wii or Wii U.
"We wanted to give fans of all ages the opportunity to revisit Nintendo's original system and rediscover why they fell in love with Nintendo in the first place," said Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America.
"The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition is perfect for anyone who remembers playing the NES or who wants to pass on those nostalgic memories to the next generation of gamers," he added.
The NES Classic Edition will be released on November 11th across North America and the UK. However, the UK version will not launch with its own AC adapter, which is included with the North American version.
