According to a security company, a group of hackers targeting critics of the Russian government has been besieging the German Christian Democratic party of Chancellor Angela Merkel since April!

Researchers at Trend Micro said that the hacking group called Pawn Storm appears to be behind attempts to steal personal and corporate data of members of the Christian Democratic Union and other high‑profile individuals from two popular email services.
A year ago, Pawn Storm was linked to attacks on the computers of the lower house of the Bundestag. The recent attacks consist of coordinated phishing attacks through IT services based in Latvia and the Netherlands.
A source from the central offices of the Christian Democratic Union said to Reuters that the party is investigating the matter.

The Pawn Storm hackers have been active for more than a decade and are considered one of the largest cyber espionage groups. According to numerous security research teams, the group has previously targeted Russia's opposition as well as neighboring Eastern European countries, Turkey, the US and NATO. It has also struck armed forces, defense companies and media outlets in those countries.
“Pawn Storm clearly targets groups that could be perceived as dangerous to Russian politics and Russian interests”, said Trend Micro.
The attack on the German parliament was first reported in May 2015. German media had said that replacing the systems would cost the government millions of euros.
In January 2015, German government websites, including Merkel's website, suffered hacking by a group that demanded Berlin stop supporting the Ukrainian government.
