Currently, Facebook has about 1.5 billion users worldwide. This unthinkable situation could arise due to Facebook's decision not to automatically delete deceased users. Instead, it leaves their profiles active so that friends and relatives can remember them. If we take a look at this year's figures alone, more than a million Facebook users have passed away. Compared to the number of 385,000 in 2010, this number is very large.
According to Hachem Sadikki, a doctoral candidate at the University of Massachusetts, who made this prediction, the slow growth in the number of new users is also responsible for this.
Since most people don't share their Facebook password with friends or family, their profile remains active even after they die. This has been a bit of a shock in some cases in the past, when the dead would still show up, for example, as having a birthday in their friends' News Feed. The account can only be deleted if someone logs in with the password and deactivates it.

Facebook now allows users to designate 'Legacy Contact' other users who will be able to post a final message after their death and change their profile picture and cover photo.
