Microsoft announced today that it is discontinuing its efforts to offer developers an easy way to put Android apps on Windows 10!
The decision confirms rumors from last November that the company was considering killing the idea. Codenamed Project Astoria, the initiative to port Android apps was first announced at Microsoft's Build developer conference last year alongside similar plans to bridge iOS and Windows and help developers port old Windows software and apps to the new operating system.

“But it turns out that having 2 bridge technologies to port code from mobile operating systems to Windows is unnecessary!” said Microsoft director Kevin Gallo.
The announcement came just a day after Microsoft agreed to acquire Xamarin, a start-up that allows developers to write apps in a single programming language and then adapt the software for every major smartphone platform.
Rather than wait for further progress with Astoria, Microsoft says developers should now consider using the open-source iOS migration tool or turning to Xamarin products for building cross-platform apps.

“Our philosophy behind bridges has always been to make it as easy as possible for you to bring existing code to Windows, and our investments in the iOS Bridge will make that simple,” says Gallo.
Microsoft has realized that it has lost the market share war when it comes to mobile operating systems, so the company has spent the last 2 years trying to ensure that its applications are available on every platform and is now trying to help third-party developers do the same!
In Microsoft's eyes, most users of Office and Windows products don't care which device they use them on as long as they are effective! From this decision, it seems that the company is more interested in porting iOS apps than Android, which have fewer of them.
