Yes! We are getting closer and closer to the era when the 5G network will be a reality!

As the years go by, Internet connection speeds get faster! According to the National Cable and Telecommunications Association in the US, Internet has at least doubled every year since 2007.
Mobile Internet is no different! Last year Huawei and Norwegian telecom provider TeliaSonera announced a partnership to provide 4.5G coverage, meaning Oslo has the fastest Mobile Internet connection in the world! Six years earlier the two companies launched the first 4G network. It was fast at the time but 10 times slower than what is available now.
While the 4.5G network is sufficient to satisfy the data consumption of users for now, the growing appetite of consumers shows that we are a step ahead of the deployment of 5G network. Huawei and similar companies have started looking into ways to provide the new network!
Here are 5 things you need to know about it:
1. It will unleash the Internet of Things!
Journalists and techies alike have been talking about the virtues of the Internet of Things (IoT) for a while now. Everyday devices and objects are starting to connect to the Internet. But so far, they've been limited to the home and the confines of a Wi-Fi network.
5G should not only improve communication between people but also allow people to connect to things and things to each other. With the promise of new technology such as self-driving vehicles , IoT should go mobile in the future! The increase in speed that the new network will bring can make this happen and not just remain a dream.

2. It will require significant investments!
Rebuilding an entire mobile network doesn't come cheap, but it requires a significant investment! The South Korean government estimates that it will take about $1.5 billion to make 5G a reality there. Huawei has already committed $600 million to research and innovation for 5G technologies through 2018.
3. The financial return will be significant!
A recent study by Plum Consulting looked at the potential benefits of a 5G network for the economies of the UK, Hungary, Italy, and Sweden. By enabling greater capacity and faster downloads than their current networks offer, outdoor 5G could deliver €2.7 billion by 2028 – and that’s a conservative estimate.

4. It will be a necessity and not a luxury!
Internet usage is growing at an impressive rate. It is what drives increases in connection speeds, not the other way around. Huawei estimates that when 5G arrives there will be around 1 million Internet connections per square kilometer, 100 times more than what 4G is experiencing. To manage this explosion in Mobile Internet usage, 5G can be seen more as a need than a want!
5. It will free us from Wi-Fi addiction!
On a 3G connection, it takes about 70 minutes to download an 8G HD movie. But if your phone was connected to a 5G network, the same movie would take just 6 seconds to download. So Mobile Internet will be just as good as Wi-Fi and many will prefer it to searching for a Wi-Fi hotspot!
