Code it Like a Girl, responding to the international movement that has begun with a focus on the USA, is the first group in Greece to raise awareness to strengthen the female presence in technological professions.
The aim is to create an environment of inspiration and knowledge through workshops and events, in which women, regardless of age and background, will feel comfortable experimenting with programming and making it their own, so that they can utilize it in their lives and professions.
To achieve this, Code it Like a Girl offers programming workshops that are specifically for women and have a practical orientation. Every woman who participates in the workshops can immediately see how what she learns is applied in practice and how she can use it at work or in her everyday life. At the same time, it organizes informational events to raise awareness of the problem of the lack of women in the ICT sector and to inform them about developments in technology and entrepreneurship.
In addition, it creates a supportive community to develop networking among women and provides guidance and advice through a mentoring program from women renowned in the ICT industry.
"The underrepresentation of women in technology is burdensome both for the women themselves, as they miss out on the opportunity to work in a sector with a large supply of jobs and high salaries, and for technology companies, which lack the "female perspective" and consequently do not have a comprehensive picture of the needs of the market. The result is that women are limited to consuming a large part of technological products, without becoming their co-creators. The primary causes of this multidimensional situation are found in the lack of appropriate role models, the spread of stereotypes and the insufficient exposure of women to technological professions. All this in an era where digital skills are the new form of literacy and addressing digital illiteracy is a global priority. Programming is the new "lingua franca" and our world needs more women who speak it," reads a statement from Code it Like a Girl.
Code it Like a Girl is built by a group of girls, who come from the fields of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Finance, Business Administration, Marketing and Law.
