Google Genomics. DNA storage for… $25 a year!

Google is known to be running a series of projects that are not purely related to the world of computers and mobile telephony, but also concern other areas such as health . For this reason, about a year and a half ago, Google has launched Google Genomics , a pioneering service that deals with the storage of the human genome .

Google Genomics

Mapping the human genome and trying to unlock the secrets hidden in our DNA is an extremely complex and time-consuming process. An indication of the complexity of this particular process is that scientists estimate that the genome of a single person contains a volume of data that reaches 100 gigabytes !

The Google Genomics project essentially allows the storage of data from millions of different DNAs in a single online database (based on Cloud technology). In this way, scientists from all over the world can extract useful conclusions and data, which can then be used to combat many dangerous and incurable diseases. In addition, the operation of this specific service will enable specialized scientific personnel to compare a patient's DNA with millions of other stored genomes and thus, through this process, the responsible scientist can decide which treatment suits his patient.

The Google Genomics service is aimed at scientists and researchers and for its use, it involves a small initial cost of $25 per year for storing a person's DNA code (although there will be other individual charges). Without a doubt, this idea will certainly greatly help in further deciphering DNA, as it is expected to give greater impetus to the scientific community for new future revolutionary discoveries in this field.
