The Hellenic Police's Cybercrime Directorate has filed a criminal case against a Greek national for a case of "industrial espionage"
According to a complaint from a company active in the provision of internet, IT and advertising services, confidential information of commercial value (customer list, sales and purchase policy statements, important codes, etc.) of the company was "stolen".
The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate has filed a regular procedure case against a 31-year-old Greek national for breach of confidentiality.
Specifically, the investigation into the case began after a complaint from a company active in the provision of internet, IT and advertising services, in an area of Attica, for "industrial espionage" against it.
According to the complaint, a 31-year-old Greek national, who previously worked at this company, had stolen - intercepted almost all of the confidential information and data to which he had gained access, within the framework of his duties.
More specifically, he had stored confidential files and data of the company in a hosting space outside the electronic folders and the company's dedicated server. With the expertise he had acquired at the company, he copied, used and violated computer data and programs, which constitute professional and business secrets of the complaining company.
The above was brought to the attention of the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office and a preliminary examination was ordered, as well as the provision of the necessary information by the internet service providers.
As part of the investigation, a formal police search was conducted yesterday (21-10-2014) at the home of the 31-year-old Greek national, where his involvement in the case was established, through an on-site digital investigation by specialized officers of the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate.
In more detail, the management of the disputed email account was verified, through which the interception of corporate emails, data and confidential information of the company was carried out. Also, information was identified concerning the hosting space, where, according to the company's allegations, confidential files and data were stored.
A total of eleven (11) computer hard drives, three (3) portable storage and interface memories (USB), one external computer hard drive and printed material related to the case under investigation were found and seized.
The regular procedure file formed will be submitted to the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office.
