It can detect malaria and cancer according to the team that developed it
An application, which with the help of an additional lens allows the “smart” mobile phone to proceed with blood analysis, has managed to develop a team of researchers, according to the BBC.
The application is called Athelas and the team claims that the blood analysis can detect diseases such as malaria and cancer. However, experts point out that the conditions prevailing in a laboratory analysis are clearly safer for such important procedures.
Specifically, users use the additional lens to take a photo showing their blood sample. The photo is then sent electronically to the application’s servers and then the results of the analysis are sent back to the “smart” device.
“For more than two centuries, the morphology of cells and the techniques for their analysis have not changed dramatically. And this is despite the fact that blood analysis for doctors is of utmost importance,” said Tanay Tandon, head of the researchers who created Athelas. "In remote rural areas, technology will shine. It will provide early diagnosis and save lives," Mr. Tandon added.
