A gadget designed to reassure parents
60% of parents in the US buy their children cell phones before they enter adolescence. This target group of overprotective parents seems to be what the FiLIP smartwatch, designed for children, is aimed at.
It is a gadget with WiFi and GPS, which also functions as a Walkie Talkie. Children can call five programmed numbers and receive calls from adult numbers stored on the watch.
The watch's creator, Sten Kirkbak, had the idea for the smartwatch when his son got lost in a store. "Like any parent, I panicked," Sten said, and he thought a device that would keep children "connected" could help. So he found the best solution was a watch that would connect to the parent's phone via an app.
FiLIP is designed exclusively for children ages 5-11 and costs $119.
