"I don't care at all what the international community says," the Turkish prime minister said earlier

Twitter has been closed in Turkey since midnight on Thursday, with access blocked, as announced late at night by the Telecommunications Directorate, following a relevant order from the Istanbul prosecutor's office.

Earlier today, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during a campaign speech, "We will eradicate Twitter and the like, and I don't care at all what the international community says. Everyone will realize the strength of the Turkish Republic.".

"Twitter" is one of the social media platforms through which recorded telephone conversations of both Erdoğan himself and his relatives and associates have been leaking for some time.
