BBC iPlayer users have been waiting patiently for the app to arrive on the latest Apple TV set-top box, after it was announced in October that the service would be included on Apple's new hardware.
You'll be pleased to know that the BBC has today launched the BBC iPlayer app for the new Apple TV across the UK, offering another way to access content from the BBC's programming schedule.
The BBC iPlayer app is now available for the latest Apple TV hardware thanks to its support for third-party apps, bringing everything you'd expect from the service straight to your big screen via the latest Apple TV set-top box.
Unfortunately, BBC iPlayer is not supported on older Apple TV devices, due to a lack of support for tvOS apps. But the latest Apple TV hardware is now available to buy, direct from the Apple Store, priced at £129 for the 32GB version and £169 for the 64GB version.
TV is a big part of our lives. We gather around our big screens to watch big shows and big events. Yet somehow, the overall TV experience continues to stagnate. Until now. It all starts with the recognition that apps are the future of TV. BBC iPlayer, Netflix, NOW TV – apps are quickly becoming the way we watch TV today. So we built a new foundation around that vision – with a new operating system called tvOS, innovative ways to connect with your screen, and an intelligent use of Siri to help you find something to watch. This is the new Apple TV. Here’s where TV is headed.
