For some time now, there has been talk that you'll be able to play PlayStation 1 and 2 games on the PS4. And Sony has finally confirmed it, at least for PS2 games.

A Sony spokesperson told Wired via email: "We are working to leverage Playstation 2 emulation technology to bring its games to the current generation. We have nothing further to comment on at this time!"
This was announced after Digital Foundry, one of the most important sources for comparing console specs, reported that the four classic Star Wars games included in some PS4 bundles for Star Wars Battlefront were running under emulation.
These include Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Straighter, and Star Wars Bounty Hunter, all three for the PS2. The fourth game is Super Star Wars, a game that was on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). All of the above featured improved graphics and trophy support for the PS4.
Although Sony hasn't said anything more about the above, it's safe to say that there will be an official announcement soon, at least for PS Experience in the US.
With Microsoft bringing back backwards compatibility to the Xbox One, it's great to see that Sony isn't resting on its laurels and is continuing to strive to do better. The compatibility of Playstation 2 games on the PS4 will definitely give the company a boost in sales and make its fans happy!
