Windows Hello will work on the Lumia 950 and the 950 XL
Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile come with support for the so‑called biometric identity element of Windows Hello, and the new Microsoft devices, such as the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, include the necessary hardware to use them as well.
While neither the Lumia 950 nor the Lumia 950 XL is available at this time, anyone can experience the power of Windows Hello on Surface tablets and laptops, or simply by visiting the nearest Microsoft store to try out the mobile phone models.
How does it work?
As you can see in this real-life demo of Windows Hello, users must first set up biometric authentication, just like any other security system available for the operating system. A security code backup is required in case the authentication system fails to work properly and does not recognize your face.
To set up your Windows Hello for the Lumia 950 XL, follow this path:
Settings> Accounts> Sign-in Options > Windows Hello
Follow the wizard to set up Windows Hello, let it scan your face for the initial setup, set a backup password and then you should be ready.
Obviously, you can always change the settings if your appearance changes significantly, as Microsoft explains, but you will need to register again. “The system will recognize old and current entries, for example you with or without a beard, glasses, or heavy makeup», it says.
Perhaps the best thing about Windows Hello is that it appears to be impressively fast, at least in this demo, so there is no doubt that this will be one of the most popular features of the new Lumia models. But keep in mind that this will be offered only on high-end models, and not across the full range of phones.
