When Google Glass failed, gluing a camera to the middle of your head might be the next step. Or at least that seems to be the vision of the founders of 3rdiTEK, who built the 3RDi head accessory.
The Montreal-based company launched an Indiegogo on Tuesday, but it doesn't yet have many backers.
The idea is very simple. There's a camera permanently attached to the middle of your head. It's like a headband. The camera has autofocus and is high definition.
Whenever you want to take a photo, you just tap the shutter. You can even instantly post the photo to your favorite social network.
“What you see is what you get,” said the company’s co-founder and CEO, Michael Khalil, in a YouTube.
He was referring to the product itself. But what many may see is a product that has many similarities to Google Glass, which may irritate them.
This pair of glasses was considered by many to be just plain creepy. In fact, Google went so far as to admit that maybe this wasn't what consumers wanted.
Many users even called it "Glassholes.".
Didn't 3rdiTEK think it might have a similar reaction?
A company spokesperson said: "Google Glass is not the best techwear ever released. It is a technology that hinders the user, since it requires their constant attention.".
This contrasts, he said, with 3RDi because "the versatility of 3RDi is amazing. You can play basketball and record your game. It's basically like comparing a PC (Google Glass) to a Mac (3RDi).".
