Anonymous supports marijuana legalization
Anonymous supports the campaign even if no hacking is involved.
In a very different activity from its previous ones, the collective of hacker activists participates, as it commits to support a telephone protest campaign that will take place on November 6 in the USA, and hopes to persuade government members to finally legalize the use of marijuana throughout the nation.
The popular hacker group has clearly and openly stated its position on the consumption of cannabis in the past, even publishing many videos on YouTube for various campaigns, some of which date back to 2012.
Now the hacktivists, through Anon HQ, one of the most popular new portals, are calling on users to give 5 minutes of their time on Friday, November 6, and call the senator and demand that he support the legalization of marijuana consumption in the US.
A national phone protest is planned for that day, and Anonymous will also join other related initiatives from organizations such as the Free State Project, Live Free or Die Alliance, Libertarian Party, Marijuana World News, and NORML.
The protest stems from a recent Gallup poll, which shows that over 51% of Americans support the legal use of marijuana.
Furthermore, Anonymous emphasize the fact that only 4 of the 50 US states have laws that restrict the recreational use of marijuana, despite the fact that in Colorado, one of the states where use is legal, it has 66% more revenue coming from marijuana taxes compared to alcohol.
Anon HQ provides a detailed file with contact information for each office, each member of the US Congress.
